SMARAGD – Shaping the Future of Manufacturing
The Interreg project SMARAGD supports manufacturing SMEs in the Meuse-Rhine region in adapting to rapid changes in technology, sustainability, and workforce dynamics.
Through cross-border collaboration, SMARAGD helps companies implement digital tools, develop sustainable materials, and upskill their workforce to stay competitive in line with the European Green Deal.
Key actions include:
- Assessing technology needs and readiness
- Providing training and expert support
- Showcasing digital and sustainable solutions
- Sharing best practices across borders
By connecting industry partners and tech clusters, SMARAGD strengthens the region’s manufacturing sector for a smarter, greener, and more resilient future.

Background information
SMARAGD is an EU-funded cross-border project (Interreg) in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine (Wallonia and Flanders in Belgium, Limburg in the Netherlands and North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany). Implemented in 2024 by 7 partners (Project leader Centexbel, Flanders Make, AMAC, Sirris, Fontys, ITA Academy, Maastricht University, it will run for three years until 2027.
