CYPRESS
Circular Production for Electric Vehicles
CYPRESS is an Interreg project that aims to position the Meuse-Rhine region as a frontrunner in sustainable, circular production for climate-neutral mobility. As the automotive industry shifts toward electric vehicles, CYPRESS focuses on building a cross-border, resource-efficient supply chain to reduce environmental impact and boost long-term sustainability.
Bringing together over 150 companies and stakeholders, the project fosters innovation in circular materials, processes, and business models. Key outcomes include the development of three pilot production lines: a refurbishable battery module, a hydrogen tank using recycled carbon fiber, and a low-carbon gearbox housing.
CYPRESS also supports workforce (re-)skilling, creating toolkits, studies, and training programs to prepare technicians, engineers, and managers for circular automotive production. Through cross-border cooperation and regional investment, CYPRESS strengthens the Meuse-Rhine region as a European hub for green automotive innovation.
The project is part of the Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) programme, co-funded by the European Union and regional partners from North Rhine-Westphalia, Wallonia, and Noord-Brabant.
