Excellence Initiative: Network between Research and Industry
While building network clusters for universities and institutions, AMAC is your competent partner for extensive support in the areas of networking, business matchmaking, selection of technology, acquisition of new projects, education & training and the implementation of joint research projects.
As of 2012, AMAC has been supporting the Technological University RWTH Aachen in establishing, the their new Institute "Aachen Center for Integrative Lightweight Production Technology" (AZL). In eight years of fruitful cooperation, AMAC developed and built up, together with AZL Aachen GmbH, a network of nearly 100 partner companies, ranging from small and medium sized companies to large multinationals along the entire lightweight value chain. Many groundbreaking projects and pioneering developments in the composites and advanced materials technology have been established. For example in the field of hybrid thermoplastic composites, high-speed RTM, high-performance SMC, composites pipes and vessels, or for new potentials for composite technologies in buildings and infrastructure.
Through the Excellence Initiative of the German government, internationally visible and competitive research institutions (Cluster of Excellence) will be established at German universities. Close cooperation between research and industry are facilitated. Academic staff, researchers and students can collaborate shoulder to shoulder with employees of innovative industrial companies.
In addition, the Excellence clusters bring outstanding career conditions for young scientists www.exzellenz.rwth-aachen.de.
Three new Excellence Clusters with a total of 19 Institutes are being established at the new Campus of the University of Technology (RWTH) in Aachen/ Germany. The AZL serves as the centerpiece of the new campus encouraging and promoting intensive exchange between industry partners and academic research.
AMAC advised and supported the RWTH in setting up the AZL through the Excellence Cluster “Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries” with the aim of improving cooperation between materials sciences and production technology. The target is to create the automated production of load- and cost-optimized lightweight components and mass production, but with versatile process chains, both in composite and in multi-material construction.
